Crocheted Afghan's and other crocheted items by Donna Ann
Crocheting is a hobby I have always admired. As I grew up, my grandmother, who lived very close by, was always crocheting something from slippers to dolls. Every Christmas I knew I would get a brand new pair of crocheted slippers and always looked forward to receiving them. It was not until after my second child was born that a neighbor insisted I learn how to crochet. My first project was a shawl using the shell stitch. I was instantly hooked. Over the years I have made many afghans and other items. I will show a few pictures below of some that I made. Of course, just like my quilting, I have two or three half way done that I need to complete. I hope you enjoy looking at them and maybe it will spark your interest in crocheted afghans. A new Grandbaby is on
the way. Of course this Grandma HAD to crochet a few things.
His name is Brendan Charles Thomas, and will arrive mid-June
The yarn used is Vanna's Choice Baby. It's a fantastic yarn The pattern is a free pattern from Lion Brand, and is a Beginner
Level pattern. Hooded Baby Blanket
I also made a 6 month/12 month size hat
I am working on a ruffled baby blanket to match. Finished AT LAST I saw this afghan in the recent Mary Maxim catalog and just fell in love with it. I bought the kit and completed it in a week and a half, while watching tv in the evenings. It is mostly double crochet stitches. It comes with a Leisure Arts instruction book, and has three other patterns. They are all fabulous. I am going to crochet all three. One is Cherry red and has bee's on it, in a similar but larger pattern than the dragonflies below. Another one is white with a green border around red ladybugs. (ya gotta love it), and the last is black with bright colored butterflies. I will post the photo's here as I finish the afghans.
This is an afghan I began in 1985 and never finished. I only had 6 octagonal shapes and the diamond shapes finished. This is the year I finish OLD projects in addition to my new ones. It's made out of Lion yarn that they no longer make. It is lacy fuzzy yarn. The finished afghan is very light weight, so it will be used as a drape only. I'm pleased with the way it came out, and I had just bits of yarn left over...boy did I get lucky there. haha
Blue-Green/2 shades- easy afghan. This pattern was on the inside of a yarn label. I have made several of these for gifts. They turn out to be light weight, washable, and easy to make. A favorite gift by those who have received them over the years.
This one is very rich in fall colors. Many of my afghans have come from Vanna White's patterns.
A simple Ripple pattern
This afghan is made with deep jewel-tone colors, which are much more vibrant in person.
This is a popular pattern. My hubby being a retired Military man Loves It! So do I.
This is one of my favorites. I love it so much I rarely use it. LoL As you can see in the photo, My Ragdoll cat "Buster" thinks I got it out just for him to call his own. LOL
