Ramblings
of an Old Woman
I am an old woman and I do tend to
ramble so this section of my web site is devoted to that. I hope you will
enjoy reading the ramblings my mind thinks it has to share with you.
I am sure you will be able to identify with much of what I talk about
here--anything goes, so be prepared.
The most recent entry is first in this blog.
Today is a VERY important day in our history, and one I am privileged
to be alive and witness.
Today Barak Obama is to be sworn in as our 44th President of the
United States of America.
He is young, energetic and has high hopes of making a better country
for everyone. I pray he will be able to accomplish this. Times are
so bad right now in so many aspects that it is nearly an impossible
feat.
I did not vote for Barak Obama for many reasons, but will support him
as our President.
I am very upset, however, with this. He is touted as the
country's first black President. True as this is, it is only a
half truth. He is also half Caucasian but no one, including
himself seems to want to acknowledge this. He is pretending to be
100% African American. What is the big deal about also embracing
his white heritage?? In case anyone has missed it, being Caucasian
is now the new minority race. Personally, I feel we are all people
of God and equal, but I do not like the idea that he ignores who he is,
and feel he has used it to get himself elected.
Time will tell if his polices will help or hinder our lives. I
wait and see, and pray he will truly be a good President and work for
the people of this great country.

I tried a new soup for lunch. Progresso Chicken and
Vegetables--Weight Watchers approved with only 70 calories/serving.
Of course if you eat what is in the can like I did, you've eaten TWO
servings. LOL It is very good!
What a day this has been. Well, I mentioned "be prepared" so I will
tell you about my day so far.
I put Tony (our dog) into the car and drove through the
slush/icy/snow to get the mail box which is a mile down the road.
There was the ol' orange postal note saying we had a package at the post
office box which is a 16 mile round trip, so off we went. We also
got my sister-in-law's Sears bill. The one she said "oh I changed
the mailing address to where I am now" this was three months ago.
Ya! right! She lies like a rug. She has since moved again. I
had put in a change of address for her last month. (since she had
refused to do it, the post office said I could do it for her).
Last month went fine--no mail until today. Soooo, either our
carrier missed the forward, or she has changed it BACK to our address
again. Grrrrrrr. I wrote "return to sender" on it and
told my hubby that what to do about her bill, was in his hands as it's
his sister. He opted to call her once again and tell her it was
here, and when she comes to get it we will make it VERY clear that from
today on, any mail sent to our address will be returned---bill or not.
It's bad enough that we get all of her creditor calls because she gave
out our phone number as hers. We surely don't need the stress,
that's for sure.
Anyway, before I left for the post office I took my morning pills,
three of which are water pills. About half way into town I knew I
was in trouble. The water pills were working really fast today.
LOL I hurried and quickly picked up the package, then and the dog
and I headed for home. I prayed all the way home that I'd make it
and not pee my pants. My bladder was about to burst. I was
honestly surprised I was able to even get out of the car when we arrived
back home. Now mind you, it's quite a walk from the garage to the
house, then up 5 steps to get inside. I knew I would not make it
as my bladder was giving out and peeing my pants and shoes was
immediately evident, so I did the unthinkable, yup, almost 65 yrs
old===I took the few steps behind the garage and pulled down my
britches. I thought the dam had burst. I peed in the snow ha
ha. I NEVER would have made it to the house. The funny part
besides the fact that I would normally NEVER do such a thing, was that I
looked to my side, and Tony had lifted his leg and was peeing too.
All I could do was chuckle. We are indeed a "pack". He had
such a confused look on his face too. Like, ok, you're the pack
leader--is this what we do next? I may not have made a snow angel
like I had planned this year, but I did make yellow snow ha ha
I have finally finished the laundry. It took me three days but
it's done. I don't usually let it get so far behind, but my week
had been hectic to say the least.
It is now almost time to begin dinner. I still have Christmas
decorations to sort and put away but that will wait another day!
I looked at my wrinkled hands today---I saw my Mother's hands.
Tonight is New Years Eve.

It will be uneventful for us. We gave up partying years ago and
now opt for a quiet evening at home with our fur babies.
We still have a good foot of snow on the ground, and with Barry being
pretty much confined to the house, it's my job to drive through the icy,
slushy snow to the mailbox. Today it yielded my first OLD LADY
official Medicare card! I cannot believe I will be 65 in 4 short
months. Luckily my mind has not caught up with my body in the
aging department.
Today I brought in boxes to begin un-trimming the trees and household
decorations. It will most likely take me a week LOL Of course the
fact that I spent 2 hours watching the Kennedy Honor's show I recorded
last night doesn't count. Most of my day today has been on the
computer, updating my Members Only site. There is still a lot to
do there.
Time to fix dinner and my fingers are numb so it's time to go.
Have a fantastic 2009, May God smile upon you and shower you with
wonderful blessings.
Buster and
Tony say
"Happy New Year" too!
The year is nearly over. Whew!
Christmas was great. My son and his wife drove over the
mountain to visit. They spent the night. We have a couple
feet of snow on the ground, with more on the way.
I cooked dinner for 5 as usual. I took a few dinner shortcuts
this year. I am glad I did. This is the first year all the
preparation of Christmas wore me out. Tonight I feel so exhausted,
tired and sore it's ridiculous.
Before the kids headed home, my Son brought in our ladder and changed
the light bulbs in our hallway. We have 12' ceilings in the family
room and hallway. I couldn't reach even with the ladder. LOL
Then he used the snow blower on the driveway. Boy was he tired and
cold when he finished. It was so nice to have the help.
Buster is meowing for me to go to bed, so I'm going to take my pain
pill and turn in.
I've been up since 6 am this morning. It's nearly Christmas and there
is so much to be done. Barry, my hubby decided to have elective
hip replacement surgery on December first, so the first week of this
month was driving to the hospital each day, which is an 80 mile round
trip. All went well I am pleased to report and he is home and
recuperating with the help of a walker. Since he came home I've
been very busy caring for him while I try to get ready for Christmas.
I'm cooking as usual. My sister-in-law will be here (she doesn't
cook, nor can she, but she can be a royal pain in our butts. LOL.
My son and his wife are going to try to drive over the Cascades, from
Ashland. It's a 150 mile trip one way. I sure hope they can make
it. They will stay the night.
Our weather has not been so nice...we have about 1-1/2 feet of snow
on the ground. It is beautiful, but---- Barry usually drives, so even
though I've lived in Oregon since 1985, where I lived before was over
the mountain in Ashland, and we had more ice than snow. Not so
here in La Pine. I have also learned how to use the snow blower
this year. Not easy for my almost 65 yr old fat and falling apart
body!
Today I started making some "Man" cookies, which is a tradition in
Barry's family. They are like Hermits but with cloves, nuts, figs
and dates added. They are delicious but you don't want to eat too
many as they will keep you farting, and running to the bathroom all day! I got
down to adding the last ingredient, the cloves, and discovered that I didn't
have enough for the recipe and that I also need cloves for my pumpkin pies
tomorrow. So, I donned my Arctic 180 earmuffs from QVC (my
favorite place to shop), my winter gloves and scarf, put my no skid
cleats on my shoes grabbed my purse and off I went on the 16 mile round
trip to the grocery store on the snowy and icy roads. I went an
old lady--25--mph all the way and I did manage to get home in one
piece. The "Man" cookies did get
maid *made (a little
wishful thinking there I think LOL)--the recipe makes about 5 dozen so
you stand a lot making cookie balls with a small meat ball maker. Tonight we had Pot Pies for dinner.
There was no way I was cooking. My muscles
are sore, so are my feet.
It is now 1:30 am the 24th, so I'm outta here for tonight. Be
back soon.
Something just came to mind as I made the line divider below.
There is an English comedian, Jo Brand, who said on the Graham Norton
TV show recently--- "When I am an old woman, I
shall wear purple---heck, I drink wine, so when I am an old woman, I shall BE
purple!
I'll leave you with that ha ha
