PSP

Filters:  Simple/Quick Tile

Mehdi/Sorting Tiles

FM Tile Tools/Blend Emboss

Simple: Quick Tile:  http://www.btinternet.com/~cateran/simple/

In PSP, open a new transparent image 400 X 400

In your Materials box, select a gradient you like.

Flood Fill this image with your gradient.

Effects/Textures/Blinds

Effects/Plugins /FM Tile Tools/Blend Emboss (using default settings)

Effects/Plugins/Mehdi/Sorting Tiles

Effects/Plugins/Simple/Quick Tile

It will look similar to the last step but will blend as your background.

This step is optional: 

Effects/Plugins/FM Tile Tools/Blend Emboss as above.

Your background is now ready to use.
