GOLD FRAME TUTORIAL

Skill Level:  Intermediate

 

 

 

Needed to do this tutorial:

 

PSP 7 or 8

Graphic of your choice

Simple Filters/Diamonds and 4-Way Average

  (You will find them at:  http://www.btinternet.com/~cateran/simple/ )

VM Tool Box/Instant Tile

  (You will find them at: http://www.fleursauvage.be/utilitaire/filtres/filtres.htm )

Xero/Art Grain

  (You will find it at:   http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/xero/?plugins.htm  Set 2)

or you can use any filter that has a noise effect.

 

 


Instructions:

 

Open PSP

Open your selected graphic,  Control/D and duplicate your original. 

Close your original.


 

Selections/Select all

Edit/copy

Selections/select none 

(this will hold it on your clipboard and you will use the copy later on)


Choose a gradient color for your foreground color (gold works great)

that will look good with your graphic.


Choose another gradient for your background color that is a

contrast or opposite shade (lighter/darker)   Now for the fun part. 


             Make your Graphic active by clicking on it.

Image/add border =  5, Symmetric checked


Use the Magic Wand and click on your new border to highlight it. 

There will be marching ants all around your new border


Flood Fill with your new foreground gradient color.


While still selected, click on Effects/3D Effects/Cut out,

with these settings Vertical 2, Horizontal 2, Opacity 75%, Blur 7.50, Shadow color Black 


Fill Interior with color UNCHECKED

While the border is still selected, click on Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow with these settings: 

  Vertical 1, Horizontal 1, Opacity 60, Blur 3.70

Selections/Select none


Image/Add Borders = 20 

With the Magic Wand,  highlight/select your new border


Edit/Paste/Paste in to Selection 

(This is where your graphic will be inserted in to the new border you just made)


Effects/Plugins/Simple/Diamonds


Effects/Plugins/Simple/4-Way Average


Selections/Select none

Image/Add Borders =10

With the Magic Wand, highlight/select your new border

Again, Flood Fill with your foreground gradient color


Selections/Invert


Effects/3D Effects/Cut Out, with the same settings as before


Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow with the same settings as before

Selections/Select none


Image/Add Borders = 20

With the Magic Wand, highlight/select your new border

Flood Fill with your chosen background gradient color


Effects/Plugins/Simple/4-Way Average


While still selected, click on Effects/Plugins/Xero/Art Grain with these settings:  

Softness 127, hardness 30, Saturation 127. 

  

If you do not have the Xero plug in, any plugin with a “noise” effect will do.


Selections/Invert


Effects/3D Effects/Cut Out with the previous settings


Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow with the previous settings


Selections/Select none

Image/Add Borders = 30

With Magic Wand, highlight/select your new border

Flood fill with your foreground gradient


Effects/Plugins/VM Tool Box/Instant Tile with these settings: 

X-Flip  80,  Y-Flip  30

Selections/Invert


Effects/3D Effects/Cut Out with the same settings as before

Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow with the same settings as before

Selections/Select none


Image/Resize to no larger than 500 height or width or a size you like

 to use for your header graphics.


Layers/New Raster Layer/add your Watermark if desired.

Layers/Merge all/Flatten

Save as a JPG



BACKGROUND

 

 

 

Open new transparent image  100 X 100

Flood Fill with your chosen Gradient 

OPTIONAL: 

Add new Raster Layer and a tube of your choice

(make it small enough to fit very tiny in to the tile square)

Layers/Merge all/Flatten

Effects/Plugins/Simple Quick Tile

Save as your background tile JPG
