Mask for sidebar image

Tubed image or graphic

Texture You can use on of the textures in PSP

Open your tube and your mask in PSP -  Resize if necessary so that it has a width of no more than 350 pixels.  I prefer this width for side-border letters.  Of course the choice is yours.

Minimize your mask

With your eyedropper tool  select a color for a background behind your tubed image.  NOTE:  If you use a graphic image, you don't need this step.

Activate your tube, Windows/duplicate and close the original.

Make a notation of the artist or tuber to add to your credits

when you assemble your letter.

With your tubed image active, Layer/New raster layer

Flood fill with the color you selected.

Reduce the opacity to 50% (note:  your tube will show through during the next couple steps--just ignore it.  It may not look like you are changing the texture but you are.

Using the settings in PSP,  Adjust/Noise/Add/Remove - Add Noise as follows: Gaussian and Monochrome checked - Noise 15%

Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom

Activate your tube layer and add a drop shadow: 6-6-40-12-color  black                    as shown below:

Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow

Layers/Merge/Merge all flatten

Layers/Promote Layer

Image/Canvas size - Increase the height by about 150 pixels.  This will allow 75 both at the top and bottom of your image.  You can adjust this number if you think it is too much or too little. Your image will have the "checks" instead of white as shown here. Click on the center button.  This centers your image with the canvas equally divided above and below your image. Leave your Width as the width of your image.

In your Materials box, select a Gradient that compliments your image.

Layers/New raster layer

Flood Fill this layer with your gradient.

Add texture here if desired *Optional

Effects/Plugins/Simple/Diamonds

Layers/Arrange/Send to bottom *I used a texture filter on this image.

Layers/Merge/Merge all flatten

Layers/Promote background layer

Layers/New mask layer/ from image

Select your mask

Layers/Delete -  when the box opens and asks if you want to merge with the layer below, click "yes"

Effects/3D effects/Drop shadow 3-3 4- 6

Layers/New raster layer

Flood fill with color or gradient.

Layers/Arrange/Send to bottom.

Layers/Merge/Merge all flatten.

*this puts color behind your mask.

Image/Canvas size - set your width at 1024 and your height to the height of your masked image. Click on the button center left.  This places your graphic to the far left of the new canvas image.  *Note:  your image will have "checks" not white as shown here.

Layers/Promote background layer if needed.

Layers/New raster layer

Flood Fill with color and/or texture

With your Selection tool select this area.

Selections/Invert *this should surround your masked image area with "ants"

Effects/3D Effects/Drop shadow set to 0-3-40-6.  *this will put a slight shadow on your masked image and your background.

Selections/Select none.

Layers/Merge/Merge all flatten.

Add your watermark if you use one and save as a jpg. for assembly in Letter Creator.
